Frequently Asked Questions


Do you have to be over 60 to join the Dexter Senior Center?
No, our membership begins at 55 years of age; however, we accept membership from anyone who would like to support our organization. 


I don’t live in Dexter; can I still  join?
Yes, our Senior Center is open to seniors living in the Dexter area as well as surrounding communities.


 May I come for lunch at the Senior Center?
Yes, everyone is invited to join us for a hot meal with vegetable, fruit and dessert served Monday through Friday at noon. The program is run by Dexter Community Schools and funded through Washtenaw County Senior Nutrition and Area Agency on Aging 1B. Diners over 60 are asked to register with the Senior Nutrition Program (Dexter Senior Center membership not required).  Suggested donation for those over 60 years of age is $3.00, guest price is $5.50.  We ask that you call 426-7737 at least one day in advance to make your reservation.


What if I am no longer driving?
Many Dexter Senior Center members ride the W.A.V.E bus to the Center. The W.A.V.E. (Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express) offers transportation for Dexter and Chelsea residents, including door-to-door bus service. They can be reached at 734-475-9494. How can I make a tax-deductible donation?
The Dexter Senior Center accepts in-kind and cash donations. When you donate to the Dexter Senior Center, you may ask to receive a receipt for you to use when preparing your taxes. For in-kind donations, please contact our Director to discuss the Center’s needs.


What do I get if I become a Dexter Senior Center member?
Membership in the Dexter Senior Center entitles you to a newsletter mailed each month and a discounted (or member) rate for most programs, trips, and classes. Members will also receive a Membership Card that has discounts to local businesses in the community. The current discounts include locations such as Dexter Flowers, Dexter Picture Frame Company, Dexter Pub, Huron Camera, My Cleaners and Wings & Things. You will also be supporting a vital part of our community.


What are the Center’s regular hours?
Monday through Friday 9:00am – 3:00pm. Please leave a message if you phone after hours. You will be contacted when someone returns to the office.
