Do you have to be over 60 to join the Dexter Senior Center? No. Our membership begins at 55 years of age. However, we accept membership from anyone who would like to support our organization.
How do I volunteer at the Senior Center? Please come in to the center to discuss our current needs. We always need volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels as well as assistance with the nutrition program.
I don’t live in Dexter; can I still join? Yes. Our center is also open to seniors from surrounding communities.
May I come for lunch at the Senior Center? Yes! Everyone is invited to join us for a hot meal with vegetable, fruit and dessert served Monday through Friday at noon. Diners over 60 are asked to register with the Senior Nutrition Program (Dexter Senior Center membership not required). Suggested donation for those over 60 years of age is $3.00, guest price is $5.50. We ask that you call 426-7737 at least one day in advance to make your reservation.
What if I am no longer driving? Many Dexter Senior Center members ride the W.A.V.E bus to the Center. The W.A.V.E. (Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express) offers transportation for Dexter and Chelsea residents which includes door-to-door bus service. They can be reached at 734-475-9494. How can I make a tax-deductible donation? The Dexter Senior Center accepts in-kind and cash donations. When you donate, ask for a receipt for your tax report. For in-kind donations, please contact our Director to discuss the center’s needs.
What do I get if I become a Dexter Senior Center member? Membership in the Dexter Senior Center entitles you to a newsletter mailed each month and a discounted (or member) rate for most programs, trips, and classes. Members also receive a Membership Card that can be used at local businesses in the community for discounts with the added benefit of supporting our local community. Currently, members receive discounts at Mast Shoes in Westgate, Dexter Flowers, Dexter Picture Frame Company, Dexter Pub, Huron Camera, My Cleaners, and Wings & Things.
What are the center’s regular hours? The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. Please leave a message if you phone after hours. You will be contacted when someone returns to the office.
Where is the Senior Center located? It is at 7720 Ann Arbor Street, Dexter, MI 48130. The center is located in the Copeland building.
